WKO Sustainable Energy System

Opposite Leiden's railway station, Lorentz building was built and completed in 2020. It is a mutlifunctional building and also "gateway" to the city centre. The building encompasses 50,000 m2 for which Vaanster has realised a WKO installation that is now being operated. For the four-storey building, Vaanster supplies sustainable heat, cold and tap water heating to shops, offices and catering establishments, among others. The two residential towers with 167 rental flats and a number of penthouses also use the sustainable installation.

BREEAM-certificate

The cooling and heat recovery system perfectly complements the other environmentally-friendly measures, such as solar panels (PV panels), a green roof and an energy-efficient lift, which were installed during Lorentz's construction. For these sustainable investments, among others, the developers received the BREEAM 'Very Good' certificate. The BREEAM tool measures and assesses sustainability of new and existing buildings, among other things.

Want to know more about one of the sustainable energy systems for your project? We would be happy to get in touch with you to discuss it together.

Ownership boundary

The ownership boundary indicates which components Vaanster operates, maintains and, if necessary, replaces. The other components are owned by the home owner, who is therefore also responsible for maintenance and possible replacement. For owner-occupied houses, you are the owner of the house yourself. For rented houses, the landlord is the owner of the house.

The image is a schematic representation of the installation in your home. The components in your home may be positioned differently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Malfunction in heat delivery

There is a failure in the heat supply. This is annoying and you want it solved as quickly as possible.

Who is responsible for the system in my home?

The answer to this question varies from project to project and is indicated by an ownership boundary. You can look this up by typing in the zip code on the home page.

Disturbance in delivery of cold

You suspect a fault in the supply of cold. That is annoying and, of course, you want it resolved as quickly as possible.

Can I adjust my advance payment amount myself?

Yes, you can. In your personal account under the heading "my invoices" you can adjust your advance amount. This is within a certain margin, because the advance payment amount must be sufficient to cover the fixed costs.

Malfunction in the hot water supply

It is annoying when hot water does not come out of the tap. It is important to determine:

  • Whether there is reduced hot water or no hot water at all.
  • Whether there is no hot water coming from any faucet (also called tapping point) in the house or whether there is a single faucet from which there is no hot water.
